When the snow stops flying and summer decides to make an appearance most people tend to forget about the ski resorts they ventured too. Truth is the party doesn’t have to stop there. these mountain resorts have loads of activities to take part in year round.
We received an invite from some friends to stay at their place at the Cliff Lodge up at Snowbird here in Utah.
We had only snowboarded at this particular resort once before but I was still blown away at how different the terrain looked on our drive up as compared to our last visit there. I also noticed the weather was distinctly cooler, with the valley having high temps it was a nice escape.
First we explored the shops and activities of the resort. There’s a mountain coaster, alpine slide, aerial tram rides, mountain flyer, vertical drop, climbing wall, ropes course, bungee trampoline, gemstone mining and gobs of mountain bike trails.
And although those looked really fun, with 9 kids between our two families we decided to go the inexpensive route and take advantage of the many free amenities.
SWIMMING
It was awesome to look around the pool and only see mountains surrounding us. Beautiful 360 views.
GEOCACHING
There were several fun nearby geocaches that we found using our geocaching app . (Did you know there are 2,676,238 geocaches hidden around the world!)
HIKING & EXPLORING
The kids loved just hiking around the nearby trails. We came across two cool finds, a hut made of logs which they deemed the Hobo House…
And later that evening we came across a MOOSE!
PLAYGROUND
Down a secluded trail and over planked walkways is a beautiful playground. It was like the pool, 360 views!
It was lots of fun but also memorable for us because we left with 2 bloody noses. I think we had a headbutt situation. :/ good grief
BOARD GAMES
We brought board games with us and they were a hit. We played Settlers of Catan (a family favorite)
and Disney Beat The Parents (It was an epic battle) and the kids are already begging for a rematch.
So this summer if you’re looking at spending some time in the mountains but don’t want to “tent it” keep in mind the ski resorts! They often have great deals on rooms, especially mid-week. We signed up for Snowbird’s newsletter and have gotten some great coupons so we’ll be heading back and taking our bikes with us to try out the bike trails next!
